I chose this deep purple agate because the colouring is wonderfully rich without being too bright. The stone moves through shades of violet, plum and aubergine, with sweeping bands running naturally across its surface. It has the sort of pattern that makes you look twice, and no two stones will ever be exactly alike.

I’ve kept the setting simple with a 925 silver finish so that the agate remains the focus. The large oval shape makes this a proper statement ring, but the deep purple colouring gives it a sophisticated feel that is surprisingly easy to wear.

I particularly like purple with black, charcoal, navy and denim, although it looks equally good against cream and soft neutrals. If you enjoy mixing colour, try it with mustard, olive green or turquoise. It is an easy way to add something distinctive to an otherwise simple outfit.

As with all natural agate, variations in banding, shade and pattern are part of what makes each stone individual.
